How to Play Classic Keno: Picks, Risk Modes and Paytables

· Updated

A bright green keno board with numbered tiles, golden draw balls and gem-like highlights.

Classic Keno puts every important choice on the board before the draw. Select between one and ten numbers, choose how sharply you want the payouts distributed and then compare your card with ten drawn numbers. The live strip below the board updates the exact multiplier ladder before you place the bet.

This guide explains the current Classic Keno game, including its 40-number board, four risk modes, Autopick, Auto mode and 98.0% theoretical RTP. It teaches the controls, not a system for predicting random numbers.

How to play Classic Keno step by step

  1. Set the stake. Choose the amount committed to one completed draw.
  2. Pick 1 to 10 numbers. Tap the 40-number board or use Autopick to fill a card.
  3. Choose a risk mode. Low, Classic, Medium and High each use a different paytable for the same pick count.
  4. Read the live strip. It shows how many matches are needed and the multiplier attached to every paying catch.
  5. Place the bet. The game draws ten numbers from the forty available.
  6. Compare the card. Count how many selected numbers appear in the draw and apply the visible multiplier for that hit count.

For example, a five-number card does not use the same payout ladder as a ten-number card. Changing the number of picks changes the set of possible hit counts, and changing the risk mode reshapes which of those catches pay. That is why the live strip is more useful than memorising one generic keno table.

Pick count changes the shape of the card

Choosing more numbers creates more possible ways to match part of the draw, but it also changes the paytable and the catch required for the largest listed multiplier. It does not make any particular number more likely to appear. Every round still draws ten numbers from the same 40-number board.

Use the pick count as a way to choose a payout shape you understand. Before betting, check where the first paying catch begins, whether a partial catch can return less than the stake and which catch produces the top value. Those details are shown for the current card.

Low, Classic, Medium and High risk

  • Low spreads more of the paytable across frequent smaller catches.
  • Classic balances the ladder between lower catches and the top result.
  • Medium concentrates more value higher on the hit ladder.
  • High reserves payouts for the strongest catches and places the largest multipliers at the top.

A higher risk mode does not improve the expected return or make a big catch due. It changes volatility: fewer outcomes may pay, while the listed top outcomes can be larger. Compare the exact strip rather than treating a risk label as a promise.

Classic Keno payout table: every pick count, Classic mode

These are the exact multipliers Classic mode settles at, straight from the game engine, for every pick count and number of hits. A dot means that outcome pays nothing. The live strip under the board always shows the current values for your card, and it remains the authoritative source if the tables are ever retuned.

Every table in every mode is derived the same way: the raw payout shape is normalised so the card returns exactly 98.0% in theory. That is why no pick count and no risk mode quietly pays better than another, and why the top multipliers grow as the hit becomes rarer.

How much do 3 hits pay in keno?

It depends on how many numbers you picked and which risk mode is active, because 3 hits on a 3-number card is a much rarer event than 3 hits on a 10-number card. On Classic mode, catching 3 of 3 pays 27.43x, while 3 hits on a 10-pick card pay 0.86x. The same catch on a 3-pick card pays 13.48x on Low, 46.11x on Medium and 80.69x on High.

Five picks, four risk modes, side by side

A five-pick card shows the risk dial clearly. Low even returns part of the stake on a complete miss, while High pays nothing until 3 hits and concentrates everything at the top.

Autopick and Auto mode

Autopick selects a valid card quickly. Its numbers have the same status as numbers chosen by hand because neither method can see the coming draw. Birthdays, recent results and visual patterns do not change the probability of a number being selected next.

Auto mode repeats the same configured card for a chosen number of bets. That can make play faster, so check the stake, pick count, risk mode and total number of rounds before starting. Automation repeats decisions; it does not improve them. Stop controls and a fixed session budget matter more when rounds run without a fresh click.

Classic Keno RTP and fairness

Classic Keno publishes a 98.0% theoretical RTP, equivalent to a 2.0% long-run house edge. The number applies to the mathematical model over many wagers, not to one set of favourite numbers. A short session can finish far above or below that average.

The draw is resolved by the game service rather than by the speed of the local ball animation. Completed rounds can be checked through Havoc Win’s proof and replay flow. Read what provably fair means, then use the live Edge page as the current source for published game pricing.

A practical way to learn the game

Start with one pick count and the Classic risk mode in Fun play when it is available. Read the whole multiplier strip, run several cards and then change only one setting. That makes it clear whether the pick count or the risk mode caused the paytable to change.

Before balance play, choose a maximum total stake and a maximum number of draws. Never raise the wager because a favourite number has not appeared recently. Each new draw is independent, and stopping is always the only reliable way to cap further loss.

Frequently asked questions

How many numbers can I choose in Classic Keno?

You can select from 1 to 10 numbers on the 40-number board. The game draws 10 numbers each round, and the live paytable shows the multiplier for each possible hit count on your current card.

What do the four Classic Keno risk modes change?

Low, Classic, Medium and High reshape the paytable for the selected number of picks. Low spreads more value across smaller catches, while High concentrates value in the hardest top catches. The current strip shows the exact multipliers before you bet.

What is the RTP of Classic Keno?

Classic Keno publishes a 98.0% theoretical RTP. RTP is a long-run design figure and does not guarantee that a particular card, risk mode or session will return 98% of its stakes.

How much does keno pay for 3 hits?

It depends on the pick count and risk mode, because 3 hits is rarer on a small card. On Classic mode, 3 of 3 pays 27.43x while 3 hits on a 10-pick card pay 0.86x. The full payout table above lists every combination, and the in-game strip always shows the values for your exact card.

Does Autopick improve the odds?

No. Autopick fills the card for convenience. It does not know the coming draw, and manually chosen numbers have no memory or advantage over automatically selected numbers.
