How this is calculated
Ten numbers are drawn from 40 without replacement. The chance that exactly j of your n picks are drawn is C(n, j) × C(40 − n, 10 − j) ÷ C(40, 10), the hypergeometric distribution.
Each paytable starts from fixed relative weights and is scaled so that every pick count returns exactly 98%. That scaling is why payouts are rarely round numbers.
The honest partThe house edge (2%) applies to every bet. No strategy or setting changes the expected loss: the numbers picked and the paytable only change how often you win and how much. Anything can happen in a short session; over many bets the edge takes its share. Set a budget before you play. Responsible play
Questions
How many keno numbers should I pick?
The count changes the shape of the paytable, not the return: every pick count on every table returns 98%. Fewer picks pay small amounts often; more picks chase rare large hits.
What are the odds of hitting 10 out of 10?
With 10 picks, all 10 are drawn with probability 1 ÷ C(40, 10): 1 in 847,660,528.
